Fire Rescue Victoria statement on IBAC's Operation Richmond

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) acknowledges the release of IBAC’s Operation Richmond report.

As a statutory public entity, FRV’s core purpose is the protection of life and property. The behaviours highlighted in the report in no way reflect those of our 4800 people who work tirelessly and professionally every day in service of Victorians.

While the report contains no recommendations for FRV, it does reinforce the fundamental principle that public sector decision‑making must be independent, impartial, apolitical and free from improper influence.

The conduct examined by IBAC highlights the risks that arise when industrial advocacy crosses into improper influence. Such conduct undermines the proper functioning of public sector organisations, impacts public confidence and is unacceptable.

FRV has substantially strengthened our focus on integrity, including acting in response to IBAC’s Operation Turton Special Report, with our continued emphasis on values, standards of conduct and organisational culture.

Fire Services Reform remains Government policy, passed by Parliament of Victoria and enshrined in law. FRV will continue to deliver this reform professionally, impartially and for the benefit of Victorians.
