At 7.09am, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident near the Western Freeway, Deanside, after multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.
The response was escalated.
FRV firefighters arrived on scene to find a structure, 10m by 15m, fully involved with fire and threatening a larger house nearby.
A Community Advice warning was issued for smoke in the area. Reports indicated that visibility was difficult on part of the Western Highway, and both Victoria Police and Vic Roads were informed.
The structure has been destroyed, with structural roof collapse. An aggressive firefighting attack, however, prevented fire spread to the main dwelling.
The incident was deemed Under Control in 40 minutes, at 7.47am.
FRV firefighters will be remaining on scene to continue extinguishment and undertake fire tasks for some time.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
The local council Building Surveyor has been informed.
