Firefighters battle Taylor's Lakes gym fire

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident in Sunshine Avenue, Taylor's Lakes at 3.22am after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a fire in a gymnasium.

Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find the 25x50m gymnasium well involved in fire.

A cleaner was on site at the time of the fire and had safely evacuated. Firefighters confirmed that all persons were accounted for.

Firefighters attacked the fire and had it under control by 4.09am. Most of the fire damage has occurred within the internal section of the main workout area.

Ten appliances and approximately 28 firefighters were committed to the firefight.

The incident was deemed suspicious and the scene handed to Victoria Police.

FRV Firefighters will remain on scene into the morning to make the area safe.
