Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) is currently on scene at a factory fire in Airport West.

FRV crews were called to King Street at 1.06am after several callers to Triple Zero (000) reported hearing explosions.

Firefighters arrived on scene within seven minutes to find a brick factory approximately 40 by 40 metres in size fully involved with flames spreading through the roof, so the response was escalated to a third alarm.

Due to structural collapse, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were forced to conduct a defensive attack.

The incident was deemed under control at 3.25am. At the height of the incident, more than 50 firefighters and 15 appliances including a hoselayer and three aerial appliances were on scene.

FRV crews are expected to remain on scene for some time.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are also on scene.

A community smoke warming has been issued for the area.
