Macleod house alight after lightning strike

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded to multiple calls of a house on fire in Macleod on Saturday morning.

Crews arrived on scene to find that the double storey brick home was well alight, so the response was escalated.

FRV crews donned breathing apparatus and began attacking the fire on the top floor as it started to burn through the roof of the structure.

Due to fears of the roof collapsing, firefighters fought the blaze from the ground floor.

An adjoining home was under threat from the fire, but firefighters were able to protect it.

Occupants of the home and a neighbouring family were able evacuate safely without injury.

The fire was deemed under control at 11:47am, 21 minutes after FRV arrived on scene.

The top floor of the house was extensively damaged.

The fire started after the roof of the home was struck by lightning.
