Candidates who accept an offer of employment will be required to undertake a 20-week recruit training course at the Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) Training Academy in Craigieburn.
The hours of work during training will be a rotating shift of four days on and four days off over an eight-day cycle, between the hours of 7am and 5pm, including weekends (unless otherwise advised).
Recruits may be offered accommodation subject to meeting the eligibility criteria. The course is not a live-in program and recruits may be required to arrange their own accommodation where necessary.
The recruit course is an intensive training program that can be both physically and mentally demanding. Successful completion of all components of the course is mandatory in order to achieve the level of competence required to operate safely and effectively as an on-shift firefighter.
The FRV recruit course is comprised of endorsed industry standards and includes units from PUA20622 Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting & Emergency Operations), PUA30622 Certificate III in Public Safety (Firefighting & Emergency Operations), and 22683VIC Course in Fire Rescue Emergency Medical Response, First Responder including enterprise specific training.
Recruits can be stationed at any of FRV's 85 fire and rescue stations across Victoria. As FRV is a statewide organisation, this is a condition of employment.
FRV is a statewide organisation, and it is a condition of employment that during a Firefighting career with FRV, Firefighters may be required to work at any FRV fire stations across the state of Victoria.
