20 hectare grass fire brought under control in Deanside

FRV and CFA both worked closely together in preventing a grass fire in Deanside damaging nearby property this afternoon.

Several triple-zero calls were received for a grass fire at Sinclairs Road and Normanby Boulevard, Deanside at 1:03pm this afternoon. FRV crews arriving on scene were confronted with a grass fire spreading and threatening a new housing estate under development adjoining Caroline Springs.

Initial crews on scene assessed the growing fire and quickly called for additional FRV and CFA appliances in support with both services working well together to bring the fire under control by 1.43pm. Thankfully there were no reported injuries or damage to property. 

Approximately 57 firefighters and 14 Pumpers were despatched from FRV over the 40 minute period highlighting the seriousness the serious risk grass fires can pose.

The fire was contained to approximately 20 hectares.

FRV was also supported by Victoria Police who assisted with traffic control.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
