Air conditioner starts house fire in Clayton

Approximately 21 firefighters responded to a house fire in Clayton on Saturday night.

FRV crews were called to the Knight Street incident just after 9:10pm, after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported an air conditioner was on fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene in five minutes to find an air conditioner on the roof alight, and threatening the roof space of the house. 

Fortunately the only occupant had evacuated prior to FRV’s arrival.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters attacked the fire and contained to the roof space of the house, before theybrought it under control 12 minutes later.

One person was transferred into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics.

Victoria Police also attended the scene to control traffic.
