Approximately 23 firefighters responded to an alarm activation at an apartment building in Melbourne’s CBD on Friday night.

FRV crews were alerted to the automatic alarm at the Therry Street building just before midnight and arrived on scene in two minutes.

They found a fire had started in a garden bed on a balcony of an apartment, and had been extinguished by the installed sprinkler system.

Fortunately the occupants of the building had evacuated before firefighters arrived, and were able to quickly return to their apartments.

FRV firefighters also investigated floors below to limit water damage from the sprinkler system.
