Ascot Vale apartment fire contained

Approximately 30 firefighters responded to an apartment fire in Ascot Vale overnight, following multiple Triple Zero (000) calls shortly before midnight.

FRV crews arrived at the Churchill Ave building within six minutes and found a fire inside a second floor apartment.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus forced entry into the apartment and started to attack the fire, working to contain the blaze.

Firefighters conducted a search of the home, but no one was found inside the apartment at the time of the fire. Adjacent apartments were safely evacuated.

The fire was declared under control 25 minutes after initial crews arrived on scene. 

At the height of the incident there were eight firefighting appliances at the scene, plus two other units.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but specialist FRV fire investigators will attend the scene.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria units assisted at the scene.
