Ascot Vale home destroyed by fire

More than 30 firefighters responded to Ascot Vale this evening following reports of flames and smoke issuing from a house on Doncaster St.

Crews were alerted to the incident at 9:18pm and arrived on scene in less than five minutes after the first Triple Zero ‘000’ call.

The double story home was well alight and the fire and was at risk of spreading to nearby properties.

Wearing breathing apparatus for protection from the smoke, firefighters made their way into the home to attack the fire. The severity of the blaze required the assistance of a teleboom to bring the fire under control in just over an hour.

One person self-evacuated prior to FRV’s arrival and was treated by Ambulance Victoria paramedics.  

Firefighters will remain on scene overnight carrying out fire duties and the cause of the blaze will be investigated at first light.
