Balaclava fire halts trams

A fire in a flue at a commercial premises on Carlisle Street in Balaclava has been brought under control.

Five FRV crews responded to reports of a flue on fire at around 11:20am and were on scene within in five minutes.

The premises was evacuated and thankfully no injuries were reported.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters entered the building to suppress the blaze. Their efforts ensured the fire was brought under control within six minutes.

Crews continued to monitor the site with thermal imaging cameras to ensure the fire has been completely extinguished.  

Three pumpers responded alongside an FRV Commander and support vehicles.

FRV worked with Public Transport Victoria to halt trams from moving along Carlise Street in an easterly direction.
