Brighton unit goes up in flames

Firefighters aggressively attacked a fire at a Brighton unit on Saturday afternoon, bringing the scene under control within 30 minutes of arrival.

Numerous callers to Triple Zero (000) reported seeing flames from the William Street unit at 2.20pm on Saturday afternoon.

Crews arrived on scene within five minutes. 

Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire was fully involved, and at risk of spreading to an adjoining unit in the block of nine properties. 

Thankfully, the sole occupant of the property had evacuated. 

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews entered the building and commenced an aggressive interior attack.

Firefighters brought the fire under control by 2.50pm. 

At the height of the incident, more than 25 firefighters responded. 

Firefighters will remain at the premises overnight to ensure that the fire is totally extinguished and put out any hot spots.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and specialist FRV Fire Investigators will attend to investigate a cause.

Ambulance Victoria paramedics also attended the scene, as well as Victoria Police.
