Burwood house fire brought under control

Fire Rescue Victoria crews were dispatched to reports of a house fire in Burwood just before 1:55pm this afternoon.

FRV crews were on scene at the Highbury Road residence within four minutes, arriving to find thick smoke coming from the roof of a single-storey weatherboard house.

FRV’s response was quickly escalated as firefighters wearing breathing apparatus commenced attacking the fire.

The fire was brought under control in just over half an hour, and the cause of the fire has been deemed to have occurred from cooking at the time.

Further investigation of the roof space was conducted to find the fire had extended in to the roof rafters, firefighters remained on scene to ensure all hot spots were extinguished.

The occupant of the house was evacuated and transferred to the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics. 

Victoria Police also assisted on scene.
