An inverter connected to a solar panel system sparked a significant house fire in Coburg on Sunday afternoon.

Several callers to Triple Zero (000) reported the Ohea Street fire shortly after 1.10pm and FRV firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes.

Upon arrival, crews found flames were issuing from the side of the property and at risk of spreading to the house next door.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews aggressively attacked the fire, successfully preventing it from spreading and containing it to the property of origin.

Firefighters deployed an aerial unit to attack the fire from above.

The scene was brought under control 30 minutes after crews arrival.

At the height of the incident more than 30 firefighters responded to the fire.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria paramedics were also on scene assisting FRV with operations.
