More than 22 firefighters responded to a fire in a Coburg unit early on Saturday morning.

FRV crews were called to the Murray Road incident just before 3:30am, after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported smoke and flames coming from the unit.

Firefighters arrived to find a ground floor unit in a complex of 13 well alight.

Wearing breathing apparatus, they attacked the fire, and brought it under control within ten minutes.

No injuries were reported and the home was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

The blaze is believed to be suspicious and FRV firefighters handed the scene over to Victoria Police for further investigation.

Crews remained on scene to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and the area was safe.
