More than 30 FRV firefighters responded to a fire at a plastic recycling factory in Campbellfield.

A caller to Triple Zero (000) reported the fire at 6.20am on Wednesday morning.

Crews arrived at the Northbourne Road scene within six minutes.

Upon arrival, crews found a stack of recycling materials in a waste compactor was well alight.

The fire was approximately 30 square metres in size, with flames five metres high.

All workers were safe and accounted for.

Crews immediately escalated the response.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews attacked the fire from the ground and deployed an aerial appliance to attack the fire from above.

Crews successfully stopped the fire from spreading from the compactor, bringing the fire under control at 6.40am.

Firefighters remain on scene to fully extinguish the fire.

A forklift operator is breaking up the pile of rubbish, as crews extinguish any remaining hot spots.

It is expected crews will remain on scene for another few hours.

Victoria Police also attended the scene.
