At 5.11pm, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to fire in a double storey apartment complex on Portal Street, Ascot Vale.
Firefighters arrived on scene within 3 minutes to find flames issuing from the second floor residence.
FRV crews in breathing apparatus quickly entered the building to conduct a search to ensure no persons were inside.
Crews attacked the fire in the bedroom of the apartment and were able to stop its spread to the rest of the home.
The fire was declared under control at 5.40pm, 26 minutes after FRV arrived on scene.
No injuries have been reported.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were also in attendance.
