Approximately 30 FRV firefighters responded to a house fire in Brunswick on Friday morning.

A caller to Triple Zero (000) reported the De Carle Street fire shortly before 1am.

FRV crews arrived on scene within four minutes to find flames issuing from an upstairs room of a two-storey residence under construction.

FRV firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the burning house and conducted a search to confirm the property was unoccupied.

The firefighters attacked and contained the fire to the room of origin and a section of the roof space.

A ladder truck was used to check the spread of fire in the roof space.

There was significant fire damage to the upper level of the house and roof space.

Firefighters believe the cause of the fire may be suspicious and handed the scene to Victoria Police for further investigation.
