Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a structure fire at Preston Street, Coburg after several calls to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.
Crews arrived on scene within 5 minutes to find thick black smoke issuing from the roof of the two-storey weatherboard house, and the response was escalated.
FRV crews donned breathing apparatus and began accessing the fire on the second floor as well as preventing any fire spread to adjoining properties.
The fire affected residence was not occupied at the time of the fire, but there were several occupants inside adjoining apartments that evacuated safely before they were assessed by Ambulance Victoria.
The fire was deemed Under Control at 11.23am.
At the peak of the response, there were 10 appliances and 30 firefighters on scene.
The cause of the fire is not yet known but it will be investigated by FRV's specialists Fire Investigation Unit.
Firefighters will remain on scene for some time, to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
