At 11.13pm, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to reports of a factory fire on Fellowes Court, Tullamarine, after multiple Triple Zero (000) calls reported smoke and flames visible from the roof of an industrial building.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find a 60 x 30 metre tilt slab factory building well alight, with smoke and flames issuing through the roof of the structure.
A second alarm was requested shortly after due to the size of the structure and visible fire conditions. Multiple appliances, including ladder and specialist support, were deployed to the scene.
Crews worked quickly and decisively to contain the fire, preventing further spread to neighbouring properties.
Firefighters began an aggressive external attack on the fire, but experienced problems accessing the seat of the fire due to roller doors and security grills hindering access. Firefighters were able to cut through the doors and security grills and begin an internal attack on the blaze.
The incident was deemed under control at approximately 1.29am.
As a precaution, gas and power supplies were managed in coordination with utility providers, and Victoria Police assisted with traffic management in the area.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by Fire Rescue Victoria investigators in conjunction with Victoria Police.
Fire Rescue Victoria thanks the community for their cooperation and acknowledges the swift and professional actions of attending crews.
