At 4.25pm, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on Coleman Road, Wantirna South, after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported large plumes of black smoke issuing from a garage that was fully involved with fire.
Additional firefighting appliances were dispatched in response to this information.
The first FRV fire truck arrived on scene within four minutes.
Firefighters found that the fire had engulfed a two-car garage, which was attached to a house.
FRV's response was downgraded based on this new information.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus worked together to bring the fire under control in seven minutes, preventing the blaze from spreading to the units on either side of the garage.
Thankfully, there were no occupants inside the home.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a faulty piece of electrical equipment.
Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police were in attendance to assist FRV with operations.
A Building Surveyor will be attending the property to check the integrity of the structure.
Power and gas companies were also requested to isolate the area.
