Approximately 60 firefighters, including specialist Hazmat crews, responded to a shop fire in Niddrie on Saturday morning.

FRV crews were called to the Keilor Road incident just after 10:45am after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported an explosion in the shop, and flames coming from the building.

Initial crews arrived on scene in six minutes to find the shop fully alight, and quickly escalated the response.

One person had evacuated before crews arrived.

Crews worked quickly to attack the blaze from outside the building using aerial appliances to stop it spreading to neighbouring buildings, and brought it under control just after 12:05pm.

Firefighters will remain on scene overnight to ensure it is safe.

Specialist FRV fire investigators will attend the scene to determine the cause.

Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, local council, and EPA are on scene working alongside FRV crews.

An Advice message was issued to residents in the nearby area to monitor conditions, and Keilor Road will remain closed while crews are on scene.
