Approximately 30 FRV firefighters responded to a shop fire in Preston on Saturday afternoon.

FRV crews were called to the Miller Street incident just after 4.00pm after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported smoke and flames coming from the building.

Crews arrived to scene within four minutes and wearing breathing apparatus conducted a search of the premises.

Firefighters found a fire issuing from the kitchen of the shop and worked quickly to extinguish the blaze.

Crews remained on scene to ensure all hot spots were extinguished and to ventilate the building.

Miller Street has been closed in both directions and both road and tram users are advised to seek alternate routes if possible.

Victoria Police are on scene assisting with traffic control.

At the height of the incident, there were 10 FRV appliances on scene, including five Pumpers and one Rescue Unit.
