Approximately 30 firefighters worked to bring a structure fire in Cheltenham under control on Tuesday morning.

FRV firefighters responded to the Tulip Street incident just before 8.00am, after an alarm was activated and a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported smoke and flames coming from the building.

Crews arrived on scene within seven minutes to find the building well alight and flames coming from the roof.

Fortunately, 50 people had already evacuated prior to crews arrival, with no injuries reported.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters worked quickly to attack the fire and contain it, and brought it under control within 50 minutes of arriving on scene.

FRV firefighters remained on scene to monitor hotspots and ensure the scene was safe.

The cause has been deemed accidental and the local has notified.
