Crews swiftly contain Maribyrnong townhouse fire

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on Cumberland Drive at 11.35am after multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene within seven minutes to find smoke issuing from a 16 x 15 metre townhouse.

Crews wore breathing apparatus and worked swiftly to contain the fire to the middle floor of the three-storey residence.

Firefighters conducted a search of the property, but no one was inside.

Neighbouring properties were checked for fire extension.

A total of 30 firefighters and 10 appliances responded to the incident.

Ambulance Victoria was on scene to monitor firefighter health.

Victoria Police was on scene for traffic management.

Power and gas companies also attended.

The council was notified, and a building inspector requested.

This incident was deemed under control at 12.42pm.

The cause of the fire is not yet determined.

Firefighters will remain on scene to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
