Crews tackle Altona grassfire

More than 50 firefighters spent the evening battling a grassfire which broke out in Altona last night, causing the closure of a major road.

Crews were called to the Princes Freeway just before 10.30pm and arrived within three minutes to find a fire spreading in a northerly direction, generating a significant amount of smoke.

A community warning was issued and the freeway was closed in both directions while FRV and CFA firefighters worked together to get the blaze under control.

The fire burnt out approximately two hectares of grassland.

The incident was declared under control by 11.45pm.

Victoria Police also attended the incident.
