Family evacuates Williamstown unit fire

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a unit fire at 10.15pm on Station Road after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported large flames issuing from the top floor.
Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the two-storey townhouse.
The response was escalated, and additional appliances were dispatched.
In total, 30 firefighters and 11 appliances were used to battle the blaze, and the scene was deemed Under Control at 10.49pm.
A family occupying the unit self-evacuated and were assessed by Ambulance Victoria at the scene.
The top floor and roof were extensively damage by fire with the ground floor being smoke and water damaged.
FRV Specialist Fire Investigators will attend on Tuesday morning to determine the cause of the blaze.
A community alert was issued for smoke in the area.
