At 7.02PM Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident in Waterloo Rd, Northcote after callers to Triple ZERI (000) reported a house on fire.
The first FRV crew arrived on scene and escalated the response as fire engulfed the house sending smoke across the suburb.
FRV crews have conducted a thorough primary search of the property and can confirm no-one has been found.
FRV crews donned breathing apparatus and began an external attack due to the ferocity of the fire and endeavoured to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties.
A community warning has been issued to avoid the area and the smoke.
Power and Gas companies were on scene assisting FRV with service isolations. Ambulance Victoria was also on scene.
The fire was deemed Under Control by 8.00AM.
The cause is unknown.
FRV crews will remain on scene overnight.
FRV specialists investigators will attend the scene tomorrow in conjunction with Victoria Police.
