FRV firefighters are currently on scene in Hughesdale where a fire has taken hold of a home.

Crews were called to the residence in Normanby Street about 1.45pm and arrived in less than five minutes to find a weatherboard house in flames with the fire threatening neighbouring homes.

Luckily, no one was home at the time.

It took firefighters 50 minutes to get the fire under control.

Fire Investigators will attend the scene to determine the cause of the incident.

“Firefighters had to work quickly to ensure the two neighbouring properties were protected,” said FRV Commander Peter Quinn.

“One property sustained a small amount of charring to the weatherboard but the other didn’t receive any damage,” he said.

He stressed the importance of having working smoke alarms every bedroom, living area and hallway of your home.
