Firefighters arrived to find one double-storey townhouse fully involved with the fire spreading to the units either side.

FRV’s response was quickly escalated as firefighters wearing breathing apparatus commenced attacking the fire.

Neighbouring occupants evacuated from the adjoining townhouses.

The structural integrity of the townhouse in the middle, where it is believed the fire began, was compromised.

The fire was brought under control in one hour and FRV crews will remain on scene until the fire is completely extinguished and the property is made accessible.

Due to the large amount of smoke in the area a community advice message was issued, recommending people in the area stay indoors, shut windows and switch off any reverse cycle air conditioning units.

At the height of the fire there were more than 40 FRV firefighters on scene, on board eight firefighting appliances, including aerial and rescue units.

Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and CFA assisted FRV at the scene, along with the power and gas companies who helped isolate services to the units.
