Approximately 22 firefighters responded to a house fire in Richmond on Tuesday night.

Multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported smoke coming from the house on Johnston Street around 9:15pm.

FRV crews arrived on scene in three minutes, to find the occupants and their dog had safely evacuated.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters began to attack the fire, which was in the roof, before conducting a search to make sure the fire had not spread to neighbouring properties.

They declared it under control within 45 minutes.

Two people were transferred into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics, and specialist firefighters are investigating the cause.
