Almost 30 firefighters responded to a waste management site in Dandenong South on Friday morning, after a Fire Indicator Panel alerted emergency services.

FRV crews from Dandenong, Springvale, and Hallam Fire Stations including a specialist Hazmat unit responded to the site on Ordish Road just before 5:15am.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were met with a fire that was 10m above ground level on a gantry which was believed to have started after a spill.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control just after 5:30am, it was contained to the gantry within an open air shed.

Six people evacuated the site, thankfully without injury.

Firefighters conducted atmospheric monitoring at the site to ensure the scene had been made safe.

At the height of the incident there were seven FRV firefighting appliances on scene, in addition to a Command unit. Appliances included pumpers, a specialist Hazmat unit, and a Ladder Platform.

FRV was also supported by CFA at the scene.
