At 1.33am, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on Eames Avenue, Brooklyn after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a shop fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find a 15m by 20m single storey convenience store well involved in fire. A car was also in the window of the store.
Firefighters in Breathing Apparatus attacked the fire.
Properties nearby were threatened, but due to the efforts of firefighters were protected from damage.
The fire damage to the convenience store is extensive.
Residents from the adjacent apartments were evacuated at the height of the fire, however, all were able to return within the hour.
No injuries have been reported.
A community advice warning was issued for smoke in the area.
The incident was deemed Under control at 2.07am.
The fire has been deemed suspicious.
The scene has been handed to Victoria Police.
FRV will remain on scene for several hours to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
Ambulance Victoria were also on the scene.
