At 9.38pm Wednesday 3 December, Fire Recue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident at Emu Road, Maidstone after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a building fire.

Firefighters arrived within five minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the front section of a 20 x 100 metre factory and immediately called for extra resources.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the burning building and conducted an internal attack on the fire, whilst supported externally by two aerial firefighting appliances.

The factory was closed at the time of fire and no persons were inside.

The fire was declared Under Control at 10:42pm, 60 minutes after FRV arrived on scene.

Approximately 20 percent of the factory has been damaged in the blaze.

The cause of the fire has been pinpointed to some grinding work that took place earlier in the day, with sparks igniting in pile of sawdust some time later.
