More than 25 FRV firefighters responded to an incident in Doncaster East on Wednesday morning following a caller to Triple Zero (000) at 3:43am.
Crews arrived to the May Street scene to find a single-storey unit well alight.
An unconscious patient was rescued from the building by firefighters.
The fire was brought under control at 4:18am.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also attended the scene.
