Lithium batteries are believed to be the cause of a significant factory fire which ripped through a Derrimut factory yesterday.

Firefighters  were called to the incident in Foleys Road shortly before 9am on Friday and arrived to find the building ablaze.

Luckily all occupants had evacuated and were safe.

A community warning was issued for the surrounding area, however firefighters from FRV and CFA managed to gain the upper hand of the fire later that morning.

FRV Fire Investigators have investigated the incident and believe that the blaze was sparked by a failure of lithium batteries which had been on charge at the premises.

Firefighting operations continue on scene however the incident is under control.
