At 9.44AM, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident, following reports of a chemical explosion.

The first call was received from an automatic alarm, following a call from the premises.

The explosion was thought to be caused by a chemical reaction and a 3rd Alarm was called.

FRV crews arriving on scene at 9.48AM in under five minutes to find a chemical fire in a warehouse at the rear of the property.

Workers from the factory self-evacuated. Sadly, a deceased person was later discovered inside the building.

A Community Advice Notice was issued for smoke in the area.

FRV is liaising with WorkSafe and EPA. FRV’s Scientific Officer is on scene to provide specialist chemical advice.

Ambulance Victoria is on scene to support occupants of the factory as well as monitor the health and welfare of firefighters.

The fire was called under control at 12.00noon.
