Firefighters battle Maribyrnong ammunitions blaze

Dozens of FRV and CFA firefighters are currently on scene at Raleigh Road, Maribyrnong, battling a large grassfire on a former ammunitions factory site.

Crews were called to the scene just after 12.30pm following a number of calls to Triple Zero reporting smoke and flames in the vicinity.

There are two fire fronts currently burning and firefighters are using firebreaks and aerial appliances to combat the blaze.

More than 20 appliances are on scene and air support has been requested.

Community members are advised to avoid the area to allow emergency services to continue their operations. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

UPDATE 5pm: The fire is now under control.
