Firefighters bring Ashwood apartment fire under control

More than 30 FRV firefighters responded to a house fire in Ashwood just after 10:30am on Sunday morning.

Initial FRV crews arrived on scene at the Elliot Street incident in four minutes to find a fire on the second floor of a five storey apartment building, and immediately escalated the response.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters conducted a search of all 20 apartments on the second floor and evacuated residents.

They attacked the flames and brought the fire under control within 31 minutes of arriving on scene.

At the height of the incident there were 11 firefighting appliances at the scene.

FRV remained on scene for some time to ventilate the smoke-logged apartments.

Ambulance Victoria attended the incident as a precaution, and Victoria Police attended the incident to assist with traffic control.
