Approximately 29 firefighters responded to a fire at a metal recycling plant in Brooklyn on Saturday night.

FRV crews were called to the McDonald Road incident just before 10:30pm, after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported flames coming from the roof of a shed.

Firefighters arrived on scene in four minutes and escalated the response.

Crews identified a fire in a hopper and piles of recycling products, and wearing breathing apparatus, attacked the fire.

Using aerial appliances, they brought the fire under control at about 11:30pm.

Fire Rescue Victoria worked alongside Victoria Police, the EPA and  Ambulance Victoria at the scene, and crews will remain on scene overnight to ensure it is safe.

Firefighters are working to identify the cause.
