Firefighters bring Ivanhoe East house fire under control

Firefighters responded to a house fire in Ivanhoe East this afternoon.

FRV crews were called to the Wallace Avenue incident at 1.52pm, after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported thick smoke billowing from a house.

Firefighters arrived on scene within seven minutes to discover the house completely engulfed in flames.

Wearing breathing apparatus, 28 firefighters worked quickly and safely to contain the blaze.

Crews brought the fire under control within an hour of arriving on scene.

Fortunately, the occupants were not home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters will remain on scene to completely extinguish the fire and to make the scene safe.

Victoria Police also attended, as well as Ambulance Victoria paramedics who ensured the welfare of FRV crews.

FRV Fire Investigators will investigate the cause of the fire.

At the height of the incident there were 10 FRV firefighting appliances at the incident, including six pumpers, a rescue unit and an aerial unit.

An advice message was issued for nearby residents, and community members and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
