Firefighters bring Melbourne balcony fire under control

FRV crews responded to a fire in Melbourne at 4:17 pm on Thursday afternoon following a call to Triple Zero (000).

Firefighters arrived to the Wills Street scene within four minutes to find a fire on the balcony of a unit and immediately escalated the response.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters quickly made entry to the unit and suppressed a fire which involved an external air conditioner unit.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the balcony area with the units above and below unaffected and the incident declared under control at 4:47 pm.

As a precaution, residents on the fire affected floor were evacuated with the cause of the fire deemed electrical.

Ambulance Victoria also assisted FRV operations at the scene.
