Firefighters bring North Melbourne blaze under control

Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters were called to a fire in Abbotsford St, North Melbourne just after 4am this morning following calls to Triple Zero (000).

Crews arrived on scene within four minutes, to find the building in flames and threatening neighbouring properties. Firefighters worked to contain the fire, gaining the upper hand by 4.46am.

Residents from an adjoining apartment complex were evacuated as a precaution but have since been allowed back into their homes.

The cause of the blaze will be investigated.

A Community Advice alert was issued due to smoke in the area.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also attended.
