At 4.28am, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on Catalina Avenue, Ashburton, after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find the single-storey rendered house well involved with fire.
Crews worked together to contain the fire to the eastern side of the house, however smoke and water has damaged the remainder of the home.
The fire took almost 1 hour to bring under control.
Firefighters will be remaining on scene to ensure the safety of the area.
The local Building Surveyor will be attending in the morning.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a burning candle catching onto combustibles.
