Firefighters contain blaze at ice cream shop

More than 20 FRV firefighters responded to a fire at a Williamstown ice cream shop on Friday afternoon.

A caller to Triple Zero (000) reported the fire just after 4.10pm and crews arrived on scene within four minutes.

Upon arrival, crews found thick smoke issuing from the back of the store.

The fire had started at an electrical switchboard and spread to the roof.

Crews worked quickly to attacked the fire, bringing it under control within half an hour of arrival.

Eight people evacuated the shop during the incident and thankfully were unharmed.

Victoria Police also attended the scene.

Crews remain on site to fully extinguish the fire.
