Fire Rescue Victoria has responded to smoke issuing from a building in Box Hill South just after 4pm this afternoon.

Crews arrived on scene within six minutes to find an abandoned and boarded up building, which caused difficulty accessing the property to attack the fire.

Fire fighters in Breathing Apparatus were able to gain access, and conducted a search of the property ensuring there were no occupants.

Firefighters located the fire on the ground floor, and the fire was brought under control within 18 minutes

FRV crews will remain on scene for some time investigating the cause and removing a lot of smoke from the building.

Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police also attended the incident.
