Firefighters contain chemical spill on ship in West Melbourne

FRV crews are responding to an incident in West Melbourne following reports of an chemical spill on a ship.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find a chemical on board that was leaking from a barrel.

Wearing breathing apparatus, a hazmat team boarded the ship and safely removed the 50 litre barrel after carefully working to mitigate the leak.

FRV crews will remain on scene from some time.

Victoria Police are also on scene.
