Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on Acheson Place, Coburg North at 5:56am this morning, following multiple Triple Zero (000) calls reporting thick black smoke coming from a factory.
Firefighters arrived to find a two-storey, 10x30 metre brick factory with a front office, fully involved in fire.
A 38-year-old man, who was opening the workshop at the time, discovered the fire and sustained minor burns.
Ambulance Victoria was called to assist.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus swiftly entered the ground floor to extinguish the flames, while external crews operating the Teleboom provided support.
The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes, by 6:42am.
A community warning was issued for a large volume of smoke in the surrounding area.
The building has sustained significant damage.
The local council’s Building Surveyor has been requested to attend, and FRV Fire Investigators will be on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
Firefighters will remain on site throughout the morning to continue fire duties.
