Thirty FRV firefighters responded to a house fire in Hoppers Crossing on Sunday night.

Several callers to Triple Zero (000) reported smoke issuing from the back of the property just before 7.50pm.

Firefighters arrived at the Virgilia Drive scene within 5 minutes to find the back of the house well alight.

Crews immediately escalated the response.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus set about extinguishing the fire and protecting the neighbouring properties from heat, flame and smoke.

The single occupant of the property evacuated and was assessed by Ambulance Victoria paramedics.

The fire was deemed under control by 8.30pm and FRV will remain on scene to fully extinguish it and put out any remaining hot spots.

Local power and gas companies were on scene assisting FRV with services isolation.
